Caravan Fix are experts in all caravan upgrades. We have performed nearly every upgrade imaginable for clients in the past.
Upgrading your caravan to meet your needs is more affordable than going out and buying a new caravan. The expert tradesmen at our Caravan Fix locations can upgrade your caravan so that it better suits your needs.
Some of the most common upgrades are Solar system upgrades, battery system upgrades, adding a grey water tank and even updating your decals. There are of course many more upgrades available.
Solar system upgrades for caravans and RVs are becoming very popular. With more and more caravanners wanting to free camp, the need for more power is important. For some it is adding an extra solar panel. For others it is upgrading inverters or regulators. Speak to our expert team about your power requirements and we can guide you through the best options to gain the power you need through your solar system.
Going hand in hand with solar is the battery system. Solar energy is used to keep your battery charged. If you don’t have an adequate battery system, all the solar power available wont meet your needs. Many caravans come with one battery, which will always prove difficult for free camping. Common upgrades include adding a second battery, or changing over to lithium batteries, which have the added benefit of being lighter.
Lithium batteries are in fact about 1/3 the weight of the equivalent AGM battery. They charge faster and last longer as well. Another advantage of Lithium batteries over AGM is they have the ability to be discharges as low as 20% of their amp/hour capacity, compared with 70% for AGM.
Upgrading your solar in concert with battery system upgrades is often the best combination for providing the power you need when free camping.
These are just an example of the many upgrades we can do for you at Caravan Fix. You are welcome to call and speak to one of our expert team about any caravan upgrades you might be considering, and whether they will meet your needs.

How often should I get my caravan or camper serviced?
As a good rule of thumb, Caravans should be serviced at LEAST once a year or every 10,000km - whichever comes first. They should also be serviced if they have been idle for more than 6 months.
Caravans, campers and other RV's are complicated machines with many moving parts. Caravan's come under similar stress as your car from the wear and tear of travelling. As more people take to the roads, the more critical it is for everyone’s safety that caravans are 100% travel ready.
There are very good reasons to service your caravan regularly:
- It will save you money in the long run by being preventative and avoiding the need for expensive repairs later;
- It will give you peace of mind that your next holiday will be free from an avoidable breakdown or something not working as expected for the whole trip;
- Your caravan is an important investment. A well-maintained caravan holds its value and reflects positively on your asset
- Most importantly, It will keep you, your family and other road users safe!
Caravan Fix will ensure that your brakes, bearings, axles, electricals, and mechanical components are not overly worn or damaged before you head out on the road.

How long will it take to service my van?
In most cases, service which requires no major part replacement is generally completed in a few hours and can be booked into one of our 6 service centres to minimize any downtime.
However, it’s important to understand that caravans and motorhomes are complex machines that are often full of unique parts! That means that it’s not always as simple to get parts for your standard automobile!
If we have to source parts that are difficult to find, we will notify you and we’ll do our best to give you an estimate of the timeframe for delivery of the part or parts.
Caravans manufactured overseas present an entire new level of parts challenges, and we sometimes choice to design and make parts ourselves if we cannot source them.
We ask for your patience when your caravan is with us and we fully commit to keeping you informed on progress every step of the way.
How much does it cost?
The cost of a regular maintenance service starts from $340 for a single-axle caravan and from $399 for a double-axle vehicle. We’ll check bearing, brakes, gas and electrical, as well as inspecting the coupling, chassis, windows, and doors and looking for any signs of damp.
Any items requiring attention will be brought to your attention with pricing for your approval to proceed with repairs.

How much does it cost to renovate a caravan?
This is one of the most common, and individual, questions we get asked! Many people enter the caravan market by purchasing a secondhand caravan and then determine to upgrade or update it. Much like a house renovation, cost largely depends on the type and extent of the renovation that undertake.
Before anything else, focus on SAFETY! Has the new purchase been serviced/maintained? If not, this is where you need to start spending your money. Don’t focus on the shine until the substance is sound!!
A renovated caravan is a great way to enter the market, but only if you buy the right caravan. There are many secondhand caravans on the market not worth renovating. So, get a pre purchase inspection before you buy. This small cost could potentially save your thousands.
Use your caravan a few times to assess what you like about it and what you want changed.
Many customers undertake a renovation in stages and as your budget allows. This can be done over a few seasons or as your income and desires dictate!
It is best to come and see us with a wishlist. We can assist with coming up with a staged renovation plan with attractive packaged pricing.
Remember, get the safety issues addressed first. These are an absolute priority.
Why does my caravan leak?
Unfortunately, it is common that most caravans in their lifetime will leak. Caravans are held together by many seals across multiple joins. And then there are windows, vents and other openings just waiting to introduce water into your van. The more accessories you have, the more potential for leaks.
Seals are not designed to be a one-off application. They have a lifespan like so many other parts. This means that all the seals in your caravan need to be regularly inspected and replaced BEFORE they fail and allow water into your caravan. How often they need to be replaced will be dictated largely by how you store, use and care for your caravan. Maintenance is the key here.
All seals will break down due to routine road travel due to vibration and rough roads. Caravans body parts and windows move during travel and can pull away from the body of the caravan. Seals also shrink and expand in hot and cold weather.
Lastly, how you store your caravan will also impact on their longevity. You should expect seals on a caravan that is stored under cover to last longer than a caravan housed outside in the weather.
Seals should be checked yearly as part of your regular service and preventative maintenance checks, as water incursion is one of the costliest repairs to undertake.
What mobile services do you offer for Caravans?
There are many services that can be easily, safely, and conveniently completed on your caravan, through our mobile service. These include: Standard caravan servicing, assessment of accident or hail damage, or the fitting of accessories, such as awnings, heaters, stability legs and battery power systems.
Please note there are some limitations to what can be done in the field. When speaking with our friendly customer service team, they will assist you to determine the best location to carry out your repairs to ensure our high level of quality and your satisfaction.
Where and when does the mobile service operate?
Our mobile service operates on weekdays and generally travels within a 25km radius of our locations but can go further as required and agreed to. There is a one-hour minimum labour charge for all call outs plus the fees for the services provided.
Why do you offer a mobile service?
Our mobile service was introduced in clear response to demand from our customers who simply wanted us to come to them, not vice versa! Often, units are in storage, or set up in a park and the effort to move them to us is simply too hard. Rather than risk seeing services not undertaken we felt we needed to respond to the need.
We acknowledge that many of our customers still want and need servicing and maintenance completed on their caravan, but for various reasons, may simply not be able to get it to us.
What services are not suitable for the mobile service?
Not all services can be offered via our mobile team! Water testing, damage repair, water incursion and hail damage are jobs that need to be undertaken inside our workshop. We also can not undertake scheduled repairs on public roadways due to safety concerns for our staff and customers.
We will determine over the phone if we can conduct the work via the mobile service. But there may be times that we may conclude that your caravan needs to be brought into our workshop.
Once again our friendly customer service team, they will assist you to determine the best location to carry out your repairs to ensure our high level of quality and your satisfaction.
How can I make a booking for the mobile service?
To make a booking, phone us on 1300 826 349 to discuss the type of work you are seeking and what Caravan Fix location is closest to you. We’ll then work with you to find the best time and place for us to come to you!
